Summary

Students brainstorm 3-5 unconventional, outlandish marketing tactics to increase brand awareness and drive sales for their business or idea.
Prior to class, students identify a marketing tactic a company has employed that is ‘out of the box’ - it is unique and memorable. Examples include Rita’s providing a free custard to customers on the first day of spring and Chipotle offering a free burrito to those dressing up in foil for Halloween.
Students share what they have found.
They then brainstorm 3-5 unconventional, outlandish marketing tactics they could use for their company or business idea...to increase brand awareness and drive sales - the sky’s the limit.
Students then share their ideas with the class for feedback.
The faculty member then instructor additional discussion if time and interest permit.

  • Strengths:
    • Encourages students to identify what real companies are doing, to think creatively and then to apply to their venture.
    • Students can then follow-up by incorporating idea(s) in their business plan and funding presentation.
